Books for Your Grief Journey

There’s something about a good book that feels like sitting down for tea with someone who understands. When words fall short or the world feels too quiet, I often reach for the wisdom of others who have navigated grief in their own way.

These are not book reviews, just some heartfelt recommendations. Each of these authors writes from lived experience, offering perspective, truth, and hope for those of us navigating the aftermath of loss. My wish is that one of these titles will speak gently to where you are right now on your grief journey.

Grief Is Love by Marisa Renee Lee. In Grief Is Love, the author offers wisdom about what it means to authentically and unapologetically demand space for grief's complicated, complex and oft times misunderstood feelings and emotions. She leaves the reader with the hope that, despite the griefy stuff, they can still live joyful and purposeful lives.

Pain Remixed by Joe Lyons-Rising. Pain Remixed is author Joe Lyons-Risings' personal story of surviving profound loss and trauma as a child to discovering a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Reader discretion is advised as the book explores topics related to mental health and suicide that could be activating or triggering.

The Beauty of What Remains by Steve Leder. In The Beauty of What Remains, author Steve Leder, a Rabbi, writes from a place of what it was like to not be prepared for his father's death after having sat with many families during their time of loss.

What's Your Grief by Haley & Williams. What's Your Grief is a book of lists designed to help you through most any loss you may encounter. It is a must have reference book for anyone who does griefwork.

If one of these titles resonates with you, pour yourself a cup of tea and allow the words to comfort, challenge, or simply sit with you. If you have a book that’s been a companion on your own journey, I’d love to hear about it.
